STS in other countries
Uganda

In 2006, STS conducted an evaluation of the USAID-funded REPLICA project - an education project designed to re-establish the elementary education system in war-torn northern Uganda.

In 2007 and 2008, STS designed and implemented a student assessment system for the USAID-funded UNITY project for Creative Associates International. Children in Grades 2 and 3 were tested in order to measure the effectiveness of the new curriculum.  2,300 students took part in the English-language test in 2007 across the country. In 2008, 5,000 will take part in English and 6 African languages.

Sudan

In 2006 and 2007, STS assisted with the design of the teacher training component of the USAID-funded HEAR Project (Health, Education and Reconsiliation) in the three areas of Southern Sudan: Abyei, Blue Nile and Southern Kordofan.  STS developed teacher training modules in literacy, numeracy, and health education, and assisted with project design and management. The HEAR Project is implemented by Creative Associates International, Inc.

USA

STS has been coordinating pen pal exchanges between students in elementary schools in Portland, OR, San Francisco, CA and Guinea since 2002. Over 150 American students in Grades 4-6 have corresponded with 150 Guinean counterparts, writing letters, exchanging photos, art work and gifts.

In May 2008, students and teachers in Guinea developed "a day in the life" video to be shared with their partners in the US. Watch an excerpt.
