STS promotes active teaching and learning so that children can learn better. One way we do this is by developing teaching materials that help teachers involve children in meaningful activities. Teachers learn how to guide children in role plays, ask higher order questions, and use instructional materials in thier lesson.
Materials we have developed include:
- 4 modules (eight 1-week lessons) for teaching math in grade 4 (pictured right)
- 5 modules for teaching health, nutrition, hygiene and HIV/AIDS (4 modules pictured below; 5th module in print)
- teacher's guides and learning materials for grade 1 instruction in local language (in progress)
- 2 posters illustrating how to avoid contracting malaria
- 2 illustrated storybooks containing lessons about malaria prevention.
STS has also:
- trained teachers in the development of instructional materials using local resources
- distributed 8,000 books donated by the people of Canada to STS schools. Learn more about our book sharing activities with PQG (right)
- coordinated the distrubution of soccer balls (right) provided as gifts from kids in the US to their pen pals in Guinea.
