December 11, 2009 - In Guinea: STS has selected partner schools in which it will launch its girls’ education project and with the help of gender expert Nancy Kendall, is designing a rapid ethnographic study to be carried out in two target schools and communities.
The ethnography will examine attitudes teachers and parents have about girls’ education, as well as practices both at school and at home that keep girls from succeeding in school.
Results of the study will be used in workshops to help teachers and parents understand the value of educating girls as well as the development of effective after-school support programs for girls and boys.
In Nigeria: In November, STS was informed that its bid on an education project in Nigeria was successful.
STS will work as a subcontractor to Creative Associates International, Inc. over the next 4 years to carry out student achievement testing in Sokoto and Bauchi States as part of a project that aims to strengthen the management of Nigeria’s education system.
