School-to-School International Support Story

Students from the Metropolitan Learning Centre (MLC) in Portland built a well (see below) for children at Wullia Laic Elementary School in Guinea.

The children and their community now have access to clean drinking water. The community, especially the women, used to walk 3 to 5 kilometres to access water from a river. Drinking the river water posed a health risk to the community because it was exposed to microbes and contaminants.

STS would like to thank Jeff Creswell and his students at MLC for supporting children in Guinea.

With your continued support STS is also expanding its efforts both programmatically and geographically. For instance, in May 2009, our supporters rallied together to fundraise approximately $5,000 to support our recently-developed Girls Education Project. Thank you for all your support!

In addition, Alcoa Foundation honored STS with a third grant to improve school health and education in Guinea and as a result STS added 7 new partner schools.
As you enjoy your summer months please consider hosting a fundraiser or donating to STS to put a smile on a child’s face. Contact us for information on how to set it up; we will be happy to help!

The School Health and Education Project in Boké, Guinea has improved school health and sanitation (pictured left) as well as student’s knowledge of HIV/AIDS and malaria. And it has diversified the methods that teacher’s use to teach their students.
Thanks to your support, School-to-School International continues to create a solid and reputable foundation of success in improving school health and education in Africa.
